We will refer to the original motherboard as Gen1 Z400 and the new motherboard as Gen2 Z400. The major differences are: Gen 1 –. Has only 4 memory DIMM slots. No embedded. DIMMs should be distributed across all three memory channels for optimal performance. Each processor supports up to 3 channels of DDR3 memory.
